In what promises to be one of the most exciting new series to swoop in just in the nick of time to prove physical media is still where it’s at, Ultra Flesh Archives adds another spine on the shelf with Endless Exxxstasy, Volume 1, a two-and-a-quarter hour cavalcade of 8mm and Super 8mm loops, both curated and restored by primo Ultra Flesher, Mark Murray.
Right away, it’s important to make the distinction that the Endless Exxxstasy series is not quite the luxurious showcase package that was Wildheart, the Leslie Winston Collection. That’s a good thing, though, because that package reflected just how much extra care and attention went into lifting up the legacy of its featured star. That’s not quite the same mission here, so this first volume in the Endless Exxxstasy series arrives with fewer frills, but as many delightful thrills.
For this series, the lack of focus on one star creates many more opportunities and possibilities for UFA during the selection process. In all, there are fourteen loops that make up the bulk of the disc which represents a buffet platter where, instead of being confined to one performer and their strengths, there is a little bit of everything here, setting a template for future volumes in the series.
CATHY’S DILDO – Exactly as advertised, it’s eleven and a half minutes of Cathy and her dildo. It’s a fairly basic piece of starter product, but an actual twist occurs halfway through when Cathy pulls a giant double ender out of her nightstand and performs oral on it while she gets herself off. Nice stuff mostly because it’s basic and the performer looks like she’s actually into it. Also notable because the restoration of the colors makes the marital aids look like they’re covered in actual flesh.
GIRLS TOGETHER – More careful in its compositions, this simple girl-girl pairing goes for a soft touch, and, much like Cathy’s Dildo, there is an added factor of voyeuristic illicitness given the anonymity of the performers. It’s almost tasteful in its execution.
SOCK IT TO ME – A young couple consisting of a dude who looks like a stickup man and his conventionally cute girlfriend get it on in a session that’s edited in-camera. There is an easygoing naturalness to both of these people that suggests they may have been a real couple, and it’s a nice bit of basic couple’s porn that really shows how to properly stretch out a bedroom dalliance.
PANTY RAID – Adorable Constance Money, wearing a cute football jersey and sport socks, is doing a little laundry. When she steps away for a brief second, a frizzy-headed, snaggletoothed pervert defiles her unmentionables, going so far as to actually put a pair of her crotchless undergarments on. The nerve! She comes back into the room and sexual hijinks ensue. Money is terrific, but it’s too bad she’s not paired with a more appealing partner. The restoration work done on this one is really worth mentioning as, more than any of the others in the set, it looks virtually brand new. Only the guy sporting a look he stole from Magic Dick from the J. Geils Band dates this one because, as we all know, Constance Money is simply timeless.
BUBBLES – A buxom young thing undoes her bra and decides to take a shower after which she enters her bedroom where her man is reading a Playboy. She get his attention and he playfully spanks her with a hairbrush before they couple up. More standard straight porn, but with performers who really dig each other and a few nice set-ups. The moment when they watch themselves in a mirror while being watched by the audience registers as a very nice touch. Again, the restoration work on this one is really good as the details in each shot really come through, most especially in the post-shower shot where all of the clinging, beaded water drops pop like mid-sized, translucent blisters.
MILK MAID – Standard lactation loop with Angel Cash and Smokey. If this isn’t your thing, this one is going to be for academic purposes only. That said, the blackouts followed by slow fade-ins are quite arty.
LONG DONG SILVER – A silent curio that acts as a behind the scenes at a photo shoot with Long Dong Silver and a pin up blonde. Very interesting in one way because it shows how convincing Silver’s prosthetic dick was when it was masked by the grain of celluloid. However, this one feels chosen mostly for the LDS novelty as not a lot happens and it this one never gets beyond softcore.
FOXY LADY – Standard couple scene with good color variation, but with a choice of setups that makes it look like the guy is trying to hide his identity. She looks a tiny bit like Annette O’ Toole and probably deserved better out of life. Poor blocking blows an already weak pop shot. Leave this stiff, Foxy Lady!
SANDY’S SEXY ENEMA – Finally, the loop that dares to ask the question “can an enema be erotic?” Like lactation loops, shorts featuring enemas were for a very select audience. Despite it being a little cheated, this is probably a more thorough examination of the process than what we get in Water Power, but it also doesn’t have that film’s gross payoffs. It has some built in suspense, which is a good thing as it comes during a saggy lull in the middle, but the ultimate answer is a resounding “no” when it comes to the sex appeal of an enema.
MAID IN BLACK – Leslie Winston and an unknown gal get it on in the kitchen of a actual house. While a bottle of Ivory liquid soap adorns the counter, Winston puts her greenhorn partner to utter shame. It’s really a contrast in styles as Winston almost camps it up while the other gal can’t find any pleasure spots without some effort. This one appears to have been filmed in and around 1980-ish as Winston’s hair has that epic bounce and shine she had in her first loop.
PATIENT FUCK – Always-nude Alan Adrian and his nurse molest a patient like they’re all in a Shaun Costello feature. Highlighting some OBGYN tools that create gaping holes the camera can stare down into, this one is simple doctor’s office porn done fairly well and effectively so. Also starring Kitty Storme.
FIRESIDE ORGY – This one immediately gets going as George Payne brings in a rick of wood and his two guests (one of whom is Robin Sane) begin disrobing and blowing him. This is a nice scene because, like good porn, it reflects a great execution of a fairly basic sexual fantasy. The restoration work here is excellent because this print has many layers of colors and textures in it that are brought out as well as they possibly could be. The gals wear clashing prints and they all stand amid an impressive rock fireplace and some gold velvet chairs that match the carpet.
A BETTER PLAYTHING – Finally, some real stars! Gloria Leonard throws Jamie Gillis in bed with her busty lover and they ravage him. No doubt chosen to include a Gloria Leonard title in the mix, this is a spectacular showcase for her and it’s well spotted as the penultimate loop in the playlist. Reflective of the fact that there was a little more money involved with this one, the pop shot is taken at two angles. If the issue of Time that makes it into the frame was fresh off the rack, it means this was shot in April of 1976.
HOUSE CALL – Maybe saving the most well known for last is a pairing between Mike Ranger (playing a doctor… right) and Dawn Knudsen, top-heavy magazine model who served as the inspiration of the similarly named Fawn Kndudsen in The Big Lebowski. You need not be a big breast fetishist to enjoy Knudsen’s west coast-ready looks as every fiber of her DNA screams California. The restoration again is very good here as this one has mostly circulated in a very washed out transfer. Here, the texture of the stucco walls can be detected, and Knudsen’s tan can now be rightly described as a mild burn. Goofs abound because Knudsen was just not an actress, and, at one point, she she looks straight into the camera like she’s on Dark Shadows and is searching for the cue cards, but it’s all very cute and harmless fluff.
The most prominent extra on the disc is The Further Adventures of Super Screw, an animated short that runs almost five minutes. With a minimal animation style that resembles some of The Pink Panther/The Inspector shorts of yesteryear, it’s a nostalgic blast. The story concerns a man whose elongated, draggy dick is forever abused, first by being chewed on by a dog, and then by getting run over by a bus. He then gets into all kinds of zany sexual adventures while recuperating in the hospital, including him getting power-fucked by a gorilla. Good clean fun.
Other extras include a restoration reel that shows side-by-side comparisons which really shows the unique challenges each one of the loops presented. As was the case with the restoration work seen in Wildheart, the results are just incredible for each title, with some deserving the extra mention above. The disc also comes with trailers for this release plus Wildheart, and the upcoming Effervescent, the highly anticipated first volume that highlights the loop work of Serena and, like Wildheart, was been produced with full cooperation and participation of its star subject.
The physical extras for Endless Exxxstasy set include a condom and an Ultra Flesh Archives collector’s card (Leslie Winston’s being the one included in my package).The insert is a fun replication of a smut order form from back in the day, and the flip side serves as the disc’s proper program, including titles and, where they’re identifiable, the names of the performers.
Ultimately, it makes good sense that the Endless Exxxstasy series serves as a tony, polished mixtape of smut without a lot of bells and whistles. The star showcases are platform enough for all the fanfare and the goodies, but for the some of these loops, sometimes shot by and featuring rank amateurs, they simply need some fixing up and to be passed around to the curious, much like they were back in the day they were produced.
And keeping to that final spirit, as was the case with Wildheart, Endless Exxxstasy comes to you wrapped in a brown paper bag which really does conjure up the long-lost feeling of holding something completely verboten and delightfully taboo, not an easy thing to do in this day and age where shamelessness is a badge of honor. With their mission to bring the illicit thrills of yesterday to a whole new generation, Ultra Flesh Archives is bringing horny back to our culture and that’s probably the best news you’re going to hear all year.
